Nilepet and UNMISS Signal Demand for Reliable Connectivity
A state oil company’s multi-site digital project and a UN broadcast-satellite procurement notice show two institutional needs. The scale of the wider market remains unmeasured.
JUBA — Nilepet says it has launched a digital-transformation project including fibre, enterprise networking, surveillance and biometric systems, and a central data centre with backup power. Radio Tamazuj reported the company’s statement on 1 October, naming South Sudanese ICT firm Sudd Connect Ltd as the implementer under local-content policy.
The announced work is intended to connect the oil company’s headquarters with remote sites and support more reliable communications and information management. Nilepet has not publicly provided in that report a contract value, implementation timetable, completion measure or independent performance results. Those are reporting questions for the next stage.
Radio Miraya seeks continuous C-band capacity
Separately, the UN Global Marketplace notice EOIUNMISS24713 sought expressions of interest for 24/7 C-band satellite service for UNMISS Radio Miraya. It specified an initial three years with the possibility of two one-year extensions, subject to funding, mandate, need and satisfactory performance. The notice’s narrative required responses by 2 October at 4 pm Juba time. It states that an expression of interest is not a solicitation and may be changed or cancelled.
No supplier award is identified in that notice. The closed expression-of-interest stage does not mean a new contract has been signed.
What to watch
The Nilepet project raises questions about service availability at remote sites, cybersecurity, power resilience, staff training and the degree of local technical support. For Radio Miraya, the next public steps would be a formal solicitation or award notice. Local ICT suppliers may see adjacent opportunities in integration, backup links, voice systems and maintenance, but these are market possibilities rather than announced components of either contract.
