Zain Discloses LTE 900 Approval and Tower-Sharing Framework
JUBA — Zain’s 2025 sustainability report says South Sudan’s National Communications Authority approved deployment of LTE on the 900 MHz band. It also describes a site-sharing framework and an agreement with GillesTech, which it says coordinates access to former Sudani and Gemtel tower assets.
The company reports that responsibility for the Universal Service and Access Fund was reassigned from the ministry to the NCA. The disclosure does not establish the date of each decision, which towers are accessible, actual LTE 900 coverage or the fund’s balance and eligibility rules.
What it could change
Analysis: Lower-band spectrum can extend coverage farther from a site under suitable conditions; sharing existing towers may reduce the cost of rural deployment. These possibilities depend on backhaul, power, equipment, prices and enforceable access terms. The NCA and Zain should publish a county rollout map and the relevant sharing and fund rules before consumers or prospective partners treat the announcements as delivered service.
