Routing Monitors Record Repeated South Sudan Signal Dips

JUBA — Internet routing monitors have flagged several short declines in the visibility of South Sudan-associated network prefixes in early October. Georgia Tech’s IODA platform tracks BGP visibility and other country-level signals; independent monitoring also reported a drop on 10 October.

A change in BGP visibility means some networks may have seen fewer routes. It does not establish four nationwide consumer outages, their causes, or the number of users affected. The reporting has not identified an operator, fibre cut or government action as responsible.

Service resilience

Analysis: Clinics, election offices and businesses that rely on calls or data should ask providers about independent upstream routes, backup power, automatic failover and incident reporting. South Sudan Press is seeking operator incident logs and NCA data to compare the monitoring signals with experienced service loss.
