Journalists Seek Resources for Voter Education Ahead of Planned Poll

JUBA — At a National Elections Commission workshop on 12 October, Union of Journalists of South Sudan president Oyet Patrick Charles asked the commission and partners to budget for radio airtime and newspaper space devoted to voter education, Radio Tamazuj reported. NEC commissioner George Lemi called for accurate and balanced election reporting.

The request is a proposal, not an approved grant or NEC spending decision. Funding public-interest information could reach communities with limited internet access, but any scheme needs transparent eligibility, editorial independence, equal access for parties and disclosure of who pays for each message.

Information people need

The NEC should publish the official registration, polling and complaints procedures in accessible languages and formats. South Sudan Press will seek the workshop materials, voter-education budget, distribution plan and rules separating independent reporting from paid commission announcements. Readers can consult SouthSudanElections.org for dedicated civic-education resources while checking official notices for binding procedures.
