The People’s Democratic Movement plans to start selecting candidates state by state this week, according to information secretary Okello Odonto Olawiri, who spoke to Radio Tamazuj on 20 October. He said party leader Josephine Lagu Yanga is expected to be nominated for president, with decisions expected next week.

The party says it aims to contest the presidency, governorships and legislatures but may leave some governorships unfilled. An internal selection is not confirmation by the National Elections Commission of a valid nomination or a place on the ballot.

This development is a concrete example of an opposition party preparing for the December vote. Reporters should ask the PDM and other parties to document meeting approvals, travel access, financing, registration and any refusals, and compare equivalent SPLM activity rather than claim categorically that only one party may campaign.
