Election Clock: Returning-Officer Applications and Coalition Filings Near Cut-Off
NEC applications close 21 October; the PPC coalition deadline is 5 p.m. on 22 October.

Two distinct election-related deadlines fall this week. The National Elections Commission says applications for 13 state and administrative-area returning-officer posts close on Wednesday, 21 October. The Political Parties Council says fully registered parties seeking to form pre-election coalitions must complete applications, agreements and financial deposits by 5 p.m. on Thursday, 22 October.
These are different processes. The NEC vacancies concern permanent election administration jobs and require applicants to submit documents in person to the relevant State or Administrative Area High Elections Committee. The PPC order addresses coalition registration for parties; it is not a general nomination cut-off for every party or independent candidate.
Applicants should check the official notices and seek dated receipts. The PPC website has a numbering inconsistency between “Order 4” and “Order No. 5/2026,” though its published deadline is explicit. The authorities should provide the complete checklist, deposit amount and appeal arrangements, and publish the outcomes after the deadlines pass.
