Former MP Seeks Independent Twic East Bid, Questions Electoral Inclusion

Former lawmaker David Aruai De-Dau says he intends to contest independently for a Twic East seat in the planned December election, citing divisions in his party and the wider opposition alliance. He also called for a more inclusive political environment, Radio Tamazuj reported.
The announcement is a declaration of intention. South Sudan Press has not obtained National Elections Commission confirmation that De-Dau has registered, collected nomination papers or qualified for the ballot.
His decision puts a practical question before the commission: what signatures, eligibility documents, fees and deadlines apply to independent constituency candidates? The NEC should publish the rules and an accessible process for appeals against rejection.
De-Dau also referred to reported restrictions on presidential aspirant Kornelio Kon Ngu. The airport incident is based on Kon’s and his allies’ accounts; authorities have not publicly explained it. A domestic travel restriction should not be conflated with the separate requirement announced for certain officeholders seeking to travel abroad.
