Political Parties Face 22 October Deadline for Pre-Election Coalitions
The PPC says fully registered parties must file coalition agreements, applications and deposits by 5 p.m. Thursday. The order does not set a general deadline for every candidate.
The Political Parties Council’s published pre-election coalition order sets 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, 22 October 2026, as the cut-off for fully registered parties seeking to form a coalition for the planned December election. It says applications, agreements and mandatory financial deposits must be submitted by then, and directs the registry to reject late filings.
Document-label discrepancy: The PPC webpage calls the instrument “Registration of Coalitions Order 4, 2026” while text on the same page says “Order No: 5/2026” and its linked download is labelled Order No. 4. The date and substantive cut-off are also reported by SSBC. South Sudan Press is asking the PPC to clarify the definitive signed order number and provide its complete checklist.
Who is affected
The process applies to political parties holding full registration that intend to contest as a pre-election coalition. It is not the nomination deadline for all parties or independent candidates. The PPC says member parties need internal governing-body approval and authorised signatories. According to SSBC’s account, the Council will review applications within seven working days and notify the NEC of approved coalitions and joint symbols.
Access and fairness questions
The Council should publish the exact deposit amount and payment method, filing address and hours, options for parties outside Juba, complete documents required, the list of applications received and written reasons for any rejection. A deadline can provide order, but its fairness depends on timely notice and equal administrative access. The published summaries do not establish that a particular opposition party has been refused registration.
