UNISFA Steps Up Patrols After Abyei Drone Attacks

Peacekeepers report emergency assistance and urge parties to avoid retaliation.

ABYEI — UNISFA says it has intensified day and night patrols following the 19 October drone attacks near Amiet Market and Todach, according to a statement reported by Radio Tamazuj on Thursday.

The mission said peacekeepers were assisting injured people, supporting evacuations and had extinguished most of the large fires. It warned against retaliatory action and said people remained missing.

The statement does not provide a reconciled final casualty total or independently establish responsibility. Readers should distinguish an official estimate from an individually verified record of deaths.

For the next reporting stage, the priorities are hospital and burial reconciliation, access for emergency teams and evidence preservation. Those measures would make subsequent casualty updates more reliable and help affected families obtain information.
